Which laptop would be best for me?

I want a laptop for this Christmas and my mom wants me to have what I want picked out early. I don't know a whole lot about computers, but I don't need one of those annoying associates at Best Buy to explain everything to me like I'm a two-year old (I tried that yesterday.) My parents are divorced, so having all of my stuff on two different computers is hard to keep track of. I have a some flash drives, and I do use them, but it would be easier with just my own laptop. I'm going to be a freshman (in high school) this year, and I'm going to need to do a lot of essays and PowerPoints (my bro took the same classes as me last year.) Obviously, I will use it for web-surfing, watching movies, editing videos, a little bit of gaming, so nothing too heavy. What laptop do you recommend for what I need? Have you had a laptop that works well with no problems? And, is the difference between an i3 or an i5 processor really worth $200? What about an AMD? Will I really need 500 GB of hard drive for what I'll be doing? I've been looking at the Dell Inspiron 15R and 17R. Do you have one and how is it? Thanks for your help! :)

Ive heard of the Inspiron machines. Biggest crap in the world. Here is what I recommend:Either this [external link] …or this: [external link] …+MacBook%26%23174%3B+Air+/+Intel%26%23…The latter is a little more money but its far better than the first one. despite the low memory, it would be better for what you like to do.

Wait until best buy, staples, or office depot have a back to school sale. You can usually get a good laptop for around $299.00. Toshiba Satellite computers are good, Find one with a minimum of 2 gb of ram and a fast processor dual core. Remember if you are going to be going different places you want one that is sturdy. Get a good laptop bag with thick padding. Remember to always make sure it is off when placing it into the bag. I have repaired many laptops that people just shut the lid put it into the case and it caused over heating damage. Good luck on your selection.

i would say that the past few years that intel had a leg up processor wise over amd, however that being said 90 percent or more users didnt notice. this year amd launched several new processor lines and i would argue overall they are better then intel processors for the most part, they take into account power, energy consumption, graphics and several other factors that beat out intel in all but the most demanding tasks such as engineering./architecture programs. I would recommend this laptop in light of that, it is an amd e-350, a mid level processor meant for every day usage. this one is 299 from best buy, and it is from lenovo which is an excellent company. i am shocked to see a lenovo this cheap new, but here is the link. i only mentioned those Other facts simply so you dont pay for more then what you need, save the extra couple hundred bucks for something else you need
