How do i justify being a B student throughout high school?

For the Virginia Tech prompt (200 Word Limit) It asks me:If there is something you think would be beneficial for the Admissions Committee to know as we review your academic history, please take this opportunity to explain.I have a 3.2 GPA, their standards are like 3.6, 3.7... I know i could have tried harder in high school, but i just did average.. In this short essay how would i justify that? I don't know how to say that but in a way that is to my advantage? I'm a hispanic male who had a steady job, social life, volunteering, but with a 20 on the ACT, i really want to go to Virginia Tech.. can anybody help me on how to properly go about this short essay in saying that i only got a 3.2 overall in high school but if i go to Tech i will strive in getting good grades and try my best even though i didn't try my hardest during high school but now i understand how important it was?

You could just admit that you’re lazy and probably can’t cut it at Virginia Tech because your grades aren’t good enough. Or you could lie and make up some excuse for your shortcomings. Whatever works for you.

Actually their standards are around a 3.3 GPA. The 3.7 to 3.8 average on their website is a weighted GPA. So if you take any honors courses that should be good.

You seem like a really well-rounded person. You should emphasize your job and volunteering more. Colleges don’t just want good grades. I do not mean to offend you, but since you are Hispanic you might get in more easily than the others. Don’t say you had Bs, say you had Bs while holding a steady job and volunteering. It would be great if you could explain how you volunteer, if you were in any organization, if you played any sports. Does you job have anything to do with your career choice? You could play that to your advantage as well.

Point out and elaborate on your work experience and volunteer experience. Explain how the experience was valuable and helped you to grow, but in retrospect you realize that it might have detracted from your time available to study. Explain how that experience will help you to be a well-rounded college student.Next, and most importantly, state how you plan to improve your GPA while at VA Tech. For example, you might say that you are going to work over the summer and save up money so that you won’t need to work during your first semester and wil be able to devote 100% of your time to being successful in their school.

    I don’t understand how some can say a 3.2 isn’t a good GPA. Just tell them about your volunteer work experience along with your grades. I’m in college and my current GPA is a 3.5 A 4.0A – 3.7B+ 3.3B 3.0B – 2.7C+ 2.3C 2.0C- 1.7
